Jason began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training in 1994 with little more than a home-made grappling dummy, a couple of semi-willing friends, and a set of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Basics on VHS tape. In 1995, he began formal training at the RCJ Machado affiliated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Training Center in Canton, MI, and stayed there for several years before injury and circumstance forced a long hiatus from the art. Jason returned to BJJ in 2009 with renewed passion under RCJ Machado Black Belt Jamel McCurry. Under Jamel’s expert instruction, and a six day a week training schedule, he rose quickly through the ranks and became an instructor, first teaching kids classes in 2011, adult basic and no-gi classes in 2013, and finally adult advanced classes in 2015. Achieving a life-long dream, he received his Black Belt from Master Carlos Machado and Professor Jamel McCurry in January of 2015. “Jiu-Jitsu is my passion. I believe in it completely as an effective system of self-defense, as a fun and engaging sport, and as an excellent form of exercise for men, women, and children alike.”
